Your first randomized run will feel strange: the game is open from the start, cutscenes are gone and items are everywhere. These habits help you enjoy it instead of sailing in circles.
Starting strong
Check the starting island thoroughly
Early items often sit close to where you begin. Clear every chest and free gift on your first island before heading out.
Learn the key songs early
Songs are needed for many checks. Knowing which ones you have prevents wasted trips.
Routing the Great Sea
Think in sectors
The sea is a 7 by 7 grid. Sweep a row or column at a time rather than zig-zagging, and let the chart guide you.
Use warps once you have them
The Ballad of Gales and warp pots cut sailing time dramatically. Recent versions add extra warp points to make routing smoother.

Managing resources
Rupees
If expensive purchases are enabled, you will need a larger wallet and steady income. Keep an eye out for silver and gold rupees in chests.
Bait and hints
Buy All-Purpose Bait early so you can collect fishmen hints as you pass islands. Record them in a tracker.
When you feel stuck
Recheck the easy stuff
Mail, Great Fairies and Deku Leaf spots are commonly missed. So are checks that need a specific song.
Remember the logic
The randomizer guarantees a solution without glitches. If a route seems to need a trick, something simpler has been overlooked.
Enjoying the run
Start small
Use a short preset from our settings guide the first time, then add categories as you learn.
Play with others
Community races and co-op viewing make the randomizer even more fun. When you are ready, read the race mode guide and grab the latest build from the download section.
The right mindset
Expect to feel lost at first
The first hour of a randomizer run feels chaotic because nothing is where you remember. That is the point. Give yourself permission to wander, and treat each empty chest as useful information rather than a waste of time.
Keep notes, even simple ones
Write down hints, locked doors and items you could not reach yet. Coming back to a list is far faster than trying to remember which island had the cave that needed Bombs.
Take breaks between sectors
Long seeds are easier in chunks. Save at a natural stopping point, such as after clearing a sector, and you will return with a clear picture of what is left.
Beginner questions
Should I generate a spoiler log on my first seed?
Yes. It is a safety net you may never open, but it prevents a frustrating dead end from ending your run. Search it only for the single item you need, so most of the surprise remains.
How many progression categories should I enable?
Fewer than you think. Dungeons, Great Fairies, Free Gifts and a couple of secret cave categories give a satisfying first run without long sidequests. Expand from there on your second or third seed.
What if I don't know the original game well?
The randomizer assumes you know where things are in the base game. If you are rusty, a quick refresher on the main islands and dungeons will make your first seed far more enjoyable. Then come back, grab the latest build and set sail.
